Schonmal den Packer RAR probiert ?

 rar a -r -m5 -ow -ol -y /Backup/archiv.rar /bla/blubb/.

Mit der Option -v kann man auch noch wunderbar multiple volumes
erzeugen, z.B. fuer Disketten oder aehnliches.

Entpacken mit "rar x -r archiv.rar".
