Ich weiss nicht genau, woran es jetzt letztlich lag. 
Ich habe einen eigenen Kernel gebaut mit der unten angegebenen Config.

Ich habe beide Bootmeldungen mittels diff verglichen, es hat sich nichts
veraendert, AUSSER dass ich den Controller beim 2. Einbau in einen
anderen PCI-Slot gesteckt habe. Jedenfalls tut es dort jetzt stabil und
einwandfrei (mehrere Tonnen Backup).

Na jedenfalls tuts nun mit dem selbstgebackenen Kernel, vorher lief der
Original-GENERIC von der Installation.

uhci0/usb0 ist Onboard, den gabs vorher schon und gibt es immernoch.
Der ist nur beim diff unter die Raeder gekommen.

Die Aenderung gegenueber GENERIC ist:
